Islam urges its ummah to think, learn, read, write, evaluate and act according to knowledge. The earliest revelation that came down to Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wassalam was about reading and learning. Reading in Islam will produce obedient servants, not arrogant people. So by reading, we can understand Al-Qur'an, hadith, Islamic history and knowledge that leads to the progress of ourselves, the nation, religion and country. The matter was among those touched upon in the Friday Sermon titled "Reading Culture, The Foundation Of An Enlightened Society". The sermon also outlined that reading also enables a person to spread knowledge and understanding through writing.

Reading and writing are very closely related to each other. If you are not good at reading, you will not be good at writing. Reading keeps you away from ignorance and can train our minds to think positively, be open and mature, form noble morals, have a commendable personality and build a self-identity that is blessing to Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. Therefore, it is the responsibility of parents to cultivate the children to love reading at an early age.
